The aim of the workshop is to provide a space for researchers in Science & Technology Studies (STS) to think together about how STS-informed knowledge and practice can support ongoing political struggles within and outside of academia in this moment of overlapping crises and the rise of global fascism(s). We want to do this by creating a collective learning space for STS researchers to engage with abolitionism as a critical theory tradition and world-making practice to enhance our collective toolkit and to develop more engaged, radical, or militant approaches to STS knowledge production and practice.

The workshop will include an introduction to abolitionism as a theoretical tradition and world-making practice borne of political struggle; a panel discussion on technologies of state violence (policing, prisons, borders, war); and a group discussion with all participants to deepen our understanding and discuss next steps.

Mainly geared towards STS researchers and structured around questions about technologies of state violence, but everybody interested is welcome.

The meeting link will be sent to registered participants the day before the event. No preparation required. We will work towards a collective resource list during the discussion at the end of the workshop.

Organized by Norma Möllers (Queen’s) and Nina Amelung (Iscte)
