September 26

The Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte) returns to European Researchers' Night, which will take place on September 26, 2025, at the National Museum of Natural History and Science.
Dedicated to Science for Global Challenges, CIES will be present at this edition with two activities, through the Laboratory for Social Studies on Birth (nascer.pt) and the Portuguese Observatory of Cultural Activities (OPAC).

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

Between the Personal and the Global: Reflections on Reproductive and Environmental Justice (5 pm to 8 pm)
Team:
Dulce Neves, Mariana Évora, Sónia Pintassilgo and Violeta Alarcão

This activity invites participants to follow an individual path through a series of evocative images addressing themes such as reproductive intentions and decisions, menstrual dignity, climate change, and both environmental and reproductive justice. Each image is paired with a reflective question and a provocative data point, encouraging critical and personal engagement with global challenges. The activity can be presented in a physical format (with printed images and response cards) or digitally (via QR codes), adapting to different spaces and audiences. At the end of the experience, participants receive a brief interpretative summary with explanations for each image and theme, reinforcing the connection between personal reflection and collective awareness. The activity is accessible and adaptable to different rhythms and age groups, promoting visual, social, and environmental literacy.

The Heritage Quest (8:30 pm to 11:30 pm)
Team:
Maria João Lima and Sofia Costa Macedo

Step into a unique adventure where knowledge and fun go hand in hand! Inspired by the classic Game of the Goose, we will play with heritage and start a journey full of challenges and discoveries, not forgetting Lady Luck! In a giant board, each step tests your knowledge and courage, intelligence and determination will be essential to overcome challenges. Through twists and turns, players will explore cultural heritage and get to know the cutting-edge research that places OPAC at the forefront of heritage studies in Portugal. Who will be the first to reach the winning square?
