Activity 1

The public space under the ethnographic eye

Researchers: Inês Pereira e Otávio Raposo

In this activity we will train the ethnographic eye through the observation of the surrounding space. After a brief introduction to the methodology, the students will build an observation script and will start a walk through the surrounding space throughout which they will seek to collect and register, in different ways, what they see. After, there will be time to organize the results and exchange ideas on the challenges of this methodology.

Activity 2

The qualitative interview in Sociological research

Researchers: Dulce Neves e Catarina Sales

The qualitative interview is an information collection technique widely used in sociology and which raises sensitive questions in what related to the position of the researcher seeing as it is in itself a social interaction. In this activity, more than transmitting basic knowledge on the use of this method we will also create interview situations in the class room, using Love and Affection as a theme.

Activity 3

Knowing our cities through the method of inquiry by questionnaire.

Researcher: Mara Vicente e Rita Ochoa

This section has as its objective to give the participants notions on the methodology of the inquiry through a questionnaire. The session will start with a framing on this methodology, addressing its characteristics, its potentialities/limitations, its applicability in social sciences. Following this, practical activities will be developed with the aim of building a small inquiry through questionnaire, applying it to a small sample of individuals and proceeding to the treatment of the collected data. This questionnaire will have as its theme the qualification of the city, seeking to use as a work field the space surrounding the ISCTE-IUL building.
