David Cairns is a researcher based at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology, ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal. Previously he has worked and studied at Queen’s University Belfast, University of Ulster, National University of Ireland Galway and University of Lisbon, and been a visiting scholar at universities in Ireland, Armenia, Estonia, China and Singapore. His research interests include youth, mobility, education and political participation, and he is a member of the European Commission/Council of Europe Youth Partnership Pool of European Researchers. He has participated in numerous projects, including two European Commission funded studies and work funded by the governments of Portugal, Ireland and the United Kingdom, and is regularly employed as an expert on Youth Policy by various European institutions, including European Commission.
