Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, School of Sociology and Public Policy at ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa. Researcher at CIES-ISCTE-IUL. Participation in research projects funded by the Gulbenkian Science Foundation (Center for Agricultural Economics Studies, 1983-86), Volkswagenwerk Foundation (Universität Hannover - CIES-ISCTE, 1986-89), International Social Survey Program -ISSP (ICS Institute of Sciences University of Lisbon, 1999-2003), FCT (CIES-ISCTE, 1997-2000; 2002-2003). Author / co-author of publications in the areas of rural sociology, citizenship and heritage. Main research interests: sociological theories, citizenship, social movements and public sphere; cultures and values; heritage and management of cultural goods.
