The National Day of Scientific Culture, on the 24th of November, was instituted in 1997 to commemorate the birth of Rómulo de Carvalho and to divulge his work in the promotion of scientific culture and the teaching of science and is celebrated during that week.

The Science and Technology Week is an enriching and stimulating activity. The invitation extended to the community, particularly students, becomes a creative and didactic way of teaching young people to understand how knowledge is produces and its several phases. In CIES-IUL this initiative has been developed for several years and the adherence by the part of secondary schools is quite high. In these activities, dedicated to introduce the different methods used in Sociology and other social sciences, moments of learning and exchange of experiences are proportioned, which also benefit interchanges between students and CIES-IUL researchers.
