Caterina Di Giovanni is one of the winners of the "Young Investigator Training Program - YITP" contest, organized by the Department of Architecture of the University of Florence. The CIES-IUL researcher had the opportunity to participate in the AESOP 2019 International Conference that took place in Venice between 9 and 13 July.

The Call, which closed on 31 March 2019, was aimed at young researchers with regional planning and design as research focus and who were affiliated with foreign institutions.

The 20 winners participated in the International Conference AESOP (Association of European Schools of Planning), which in 2019 adopted the theme "Planning for Transition" and were welcomed as visiting researchers, during the month before the Conference, by the main Italian departments of the AESOP network.

Caterina di Giovanni presented her paper "Housing Policies Beyond Numbers: A comparative study in Portugal and Italy" on the second day of the Conference, as part of the panel "Housing, gentrification and socio-spatial dynamics".

About the program:

The "Young Investigator Training Program - YITP" has as main objectives to promote scientific research and collaboration among internationally recognized institutions and to encourage the mobility of young scientists. The scholarships awarded are intended to support the participation of young researchers, giving them the opportunity to work in research centres abroad, in internationally recognised seminars and conferences organised by Italian research institutions.

Caterina Francesca Di Giovanni is an architect (Università di Palermo) with a postgraduate degree in Urbanism in Public Administration - City and Territory Management (Sapienza Università di Roma). In 2017 she was part of the exPERts project "Making sense of planning expertise: housing policy and the role of experts in the Special Rehousing Programme", with which she continues to collaborate. She is currently a PhD student in Urban Studies (ISCTE-IUL and FCSH-UNL) and is developing research, financed through an FCT grant, which aims to assess interventions in social housing neighbourhoods within a comparative perspective between Italy and Portugal.
